The bento was inspired by the Winnie The Pooh roll cake I bake last week.

I love it when my bento and roll cake can be source of inspiration to both hobbies.

Bento # 175 – Panda onigiri Bento

Yesterday was the first day of me going  back to gym for morning exercise after a very very long   (like forever) break. And as the result I slept like a baby and woke up this morning feeling energized (though my whole body was  bit sore).

Since I have  plenty of time I decided to make myself  bento for lunch.  Initially I plan to make something with the gym/exercise theme but nothing came out so I switch to something simple and easier, the classic panda onigiri.

I stuffed the panda with chopped BBQ roasted pork  (yesterday left over) and add few romaine lettuce and Chinese Xiang Chang sausage in the box and as a dessert/ afternoon snack I  pack piece of steam black glutinous rice cake with coconut.

Happy Monday all!

Wish you have a great week ahead.

Bento # 174 – Doraemon Bento

This is my second attempt making bento with Doraemon theme.

Same as my previous Doraemon I use meat patty for Doraemon’s face then decorate it with cheese, nori. And yes I have to insert Doraemon in between my bread before I eat it.

Chomp…chomp…chomp…

Bento # 173 – Cony and Brown Bento

Ever since I start baking I find myself don’t have enough time  to do both, however I am not forgetting and let go of bento especially after giving another private bento course to Mrs. HS yesterday I am encouraged to get back to my bento.

So today I woke up earlier and made my self a healthy bento  where everything in the box are steamed (kind of take a short cut to cook everything at the same time).

Anyone recognize the character in the bento without looking at the title?

Yes  I meant to make Cony the moody rabbit and Brown the chubby bear from LINE sticker. However after placing everything in the box I found myself getting rusty and not able to cut the nori the way I wanted it resemble Cony’s expression so I gave up and took out the nori puncher and just use the basic shape for the eyes and others resulted to Cony looks more like other ordinary rabbit and Brown looks more like Rilakkuma.

By the way the way I bake  Cony And Brown roll cake  last Tuesday, posted at Rabbitcanbake

At least the roll cake resemble the character better than the bento.

Cony and Brown mini rolls

Nevertheless making both bento and roll cake were fun.

Psst… after looking at the bento, I felt they were too healthy and I was craving for something fried or grilled  so by the noon time, I swap my lunch and the bento went to my neighbor Mrs. HH  😀

Happy Friday all!

Wish you have a great weekend ahead.

Bento # 171 – Little mice bento

A rather gloomy Tuesday and I decided to turn my lunch into bento despite the lack of ingredients. Situation  like this  remind me to make a good use of many of my new and un-used bento tools/accesories.

Today lunch consist of 2 rice balls decorated with cheese and nori and bento picks for the hats, few pieces of the freshly baked blueberry almond cake decorated with bento picks (music notes) , a portion of mushroom stir fry and few pieces of fried chicken wings.

Separately I pack a set of similar bento for my friend too Ms. HH, she is a big fan of mushroom and I hope the lunch can cheer up her up.

Happy Tuesday all.

As the substitute of the dog house I use Menchi Katsu, which is minced meat stuffed in the Aburaage (tofu pocket).  While for the rice I use 2 type, fried rice as the base and white rice for Snoopy.

Happy Friday All.

Bento # 163 – Snoopy Bento

Snoopy is a good friend and had been with me for many years and I always wanted to make Bento with Snoopy theme.

Snoopy

After months of waiting, finally Snoopy got to have his place in RCC gallery of bento 🙂

Did you notice they are 2 Snoopy in the bento? Well the one in the white box was not my creation, it was bought out chocolate bun from nearby bakery and I think it will be good to add him as snack. My Snoopy is made of rice decorated with nori (eyes, ear and mouth) and black bean (nose), for the side dish I have crispy chicken katsu and sauteed baby potatoes. By the way  the red things in the upper box are jambu air aka rose apple.

Bento # 162 – A 3 Ryou Bento

Yesterday I read a manga called Kaze Hikaru  , the story is about about  a girl whom disguised as a boy to join the Mibu Roshi (later to become the Shinsengumi, to protect the shogun in the chaotic time  on the Bakumetsu Era around 1863 A.D)  to avenge the death of her family.  In the first volume of the manga there was a chapter about when the poor group were finally received their allowance of 3 Ryou .  At the time , one and a half Ryou was enough to last a family of 5 for a month.

The Ryou (gold coin) looks like egg tamagoyaki to me so based on the story I created the 3 Ryou bento (which was my dinner yesterday)

After receiving the allowance, the samurai is feasting with his wife and brought her some nice hair ornament. They have roast duck (though in the story it was mentioned that good quality fish is a real treat during the time) for dinner as well as some sweets for dessert. And I think it is only proper to use the Kimono Murasaki Long box for this occasion 🙂

Bento # 160 – Sharks Bento

My very first memory of shark  always link to the “Jaws” movie.  Sharks were evil and scary and  I remember as a child being scared of sea after watching the movie. And the the second most memorable  thing about shark was  “ Fish are friends, not food” (anyone remember this quote?) LOL….

Today bento featuring the predator of the sea made of sausages wrapped with nori and decorated with cheese placed on portion of brown butter tagliatelle. For side dish I have grilled chicken and few strawberries.

Bento # 160 – Sharks Bento

I try to cut the sharp teeth out of cheese but somehow they keep crumbling and falling when I try to stick them on the sausages so I gave up and let my sharks look solemn without the scary sharp teeth. Nevertheless I still think they look kind of intimidating.

Do you think kids will love to eat sharks bento?

Happy Tuesday all …

Bento # 159 – Bu Bu The Black Cat Bento

Today bento was inspired by Bu-Bu, Ms. WH’s beloved pet. Bu Bu is a handsome cat with it’s fluffy hair and aristocrat look.Below please find the photo of Bu Bu (courtesy of his master)

Pesanggrahan-20120827-00734

It’s was hard to replicate such fine hair and look , so instead of  copying/replicating Bu Bu’s original look, I took the easy way by   cutting a piece of Nori to replicate d the black cat coaster that I bought last week.Somehow to me every black cat now a day reminds me on Bu Bu (that was also the first thing come across my mind when I saw the coaster and decided to buy).
