Bento # 174 – Doraemon Bento

This is my second attempt making bento with Doraemon theme.

Same as my previous Doraemon I use meat patty for Doraemon’s face then decorate it with cheese, nori. And yes I have to insert Doraemon in between my bread before I eat it.

Chomp…chomp…chomp…

Bento # 172 – Bunny and Teddy Bento

Yesterday I  received  bunch of baso goreng (Indonesian name for Indonesian version of fried meat ball which combine chicken , prawn and corn/tapioca flour and other seasoning) from my BFF’s mum.

Yes my friend Ms. K ‘s mum is famous for her delicious baso goreng and I am so delighted when she told me that her mum’s is making them and I got my share too. I decided to convert some  into bento before I really finish all those yummy baso (which in the process of bento making I already devoured about 5 pieces) 😀

Tada… I  present you Bunny and Teddy which were made of Baso goreng.

Cut the baso into 2 for bunny’s and teddy’s face and some more for the ears then decorated them with cheese.

For the side dish I have bunch of veggies, a piece of steamed chicken breast, mum’s famous stew egg and some blanched carrots cut into flower shape and ebi shape.

Also some Japanese purple sweet potato cake and berries for dessert.

Happy Monday All!

Bento # 171 – Little mice bento

A rather gloomy Tuesday and I decided to turn my lunch into bento despite the lack of ingredients. Situation  like this  remind me to make a good use of many of my new and un-used bento tools/accesories.

Today lunch consist of 2 rice balls decorated with cheese and nori and bento picks for the hats, few pieces of the freshly baked blueberry almond cake decorated with bento picks (music notes) , a portion of mushroom stir fry and few pieces of fried chicken wings.

Separately I pack a set of similar bento for my friend too Ms. HH, she is a big fan of mushroom and I hope the lunch can cheer up her up.

Happy Tuesday all.

Bento # 170 – Animal Paw Bento

Today I spent my morning considering  whether I should busy myself doing baking or making bento and finally I decided to make some bento since it’s been ages since the last time I made one.  However I kind of running out of idea and stock of food, now a day my fridge consist mostly fruits, fresh cream, butter and other baking ingredients.

So upon ransacking the fridge I still have few leftover dishes from last night dinner, a quarter  of roasted duck,  small portion of fried rice and white steam rice.  So I simply reheat the whole things and place the rice into my cute baking mold and voila,  animal paw bento for lunch. Running out of green veggis so I take the short cut by adding some silicon baran for nicer color 😉

Bento # 169 – White Owl Bento

Yes, despite the sudden crush on baking I still remember the old love for bento. So few days without bento today I made a simple tomato fried rice bento with pork chop for myself. The white owl was made of fish ball while the tree were pork chop slices and cucumber for the leaves.

Bento # 167 – Koalas Bento

Dear friends, thank you so much for you kind wishes when I was down with flu last week, I am fully recovered and back to the kitchen and my bento making.

Today bento is Koalas made of mum’s famous stew egg which she pack for me for my stash.

My mum said that she regretted for having the patience to learn and  hence not able to replicate my grandma’s famous stew egg (mum told me grandma always spend hours, cooking and  stirring those eggs in black bean  sauce, using charcoal stove to ensure the flavor and seasoning slowly penetrate the dish). I do not have any memory of my grandma’s stew egg because she passed away when I was 7 years old hence mum’s version is still my fave. I cut the egg into thinner slices to make the ears, head and body and place the stew sauce at the bottom of the rice  (I always love the sauce). The 3 pieces of corn and prawn fritters was also from mum 🙂

Bento # 166 – The Mermaid Bento

This is the bento I made for my submission to BentoandCo 2013 bento contest, unfortunately  and embarrassingly I did not make it even to the final which mean I have to sharpen my skills and try harder next year.

In compliance with contest theme of Pasta, the mermaid bento was made with 3 types of pasta, for the base was brown butter tagliatelle and then some aglio olio shell pasta and lastly wholemeal spaghetti for the mermaid’s hair.  Eby fry for the body and spam for the face and body.

Bento # 165 – Porridge Bento (day2)

Day 2 of flu and another porridge with different ingredients for lunch.

By the way in the case if you wonder, I had the same stuff for dinner but I did not decorate or make them into bento 🙂

Today Bento have some sauteed mushroom and another bunch of spinach and quail egg,  some onion crisps and salted fish to enhance the taste.

Bento # 163 – Snoopy Bento

Snoopy is a good friend and had been with me for many years and I always wanted to make Bento with Snoopy theme.

Snoopy

After months of waiting, finally Snoopy got to have his place in RCC gallery of bento 🙂

Did you notice they are 2 Snoopy in the bento? Well the one in the white box was not my creation, it was bought out chocolate bun from nearby bakery and I think it will be good to add him as snack. My Snoopy is made of rice decorated with nori (eyes, ear and mouth) and black bean (nose), for the side dish I have crispy chicken katsu and sauteed baby potatoes. By the way  the red things in the upper box are jambu air aka rose apple.

Bento # 162 – A 3 Ryou Bento

Yesterday I read a manga called Kaze Hikaru  , the story is about about  a girl whom disguised as a boy to join the Mibu Roshi (later to become the Shinsengumi, to protect the shogun in the chaotic time  on the Bakumetsu Era around 1863 A.D)  to avenge the death of her family.  In the first volume of the manga there was a chapter about when the poor group were finally received their allowance of 3 Ryou .  At the time , one and a half Ryou was enough to last a family of 5 for a month.

The Ryou (gold coin) looks like egg tamagoyaki to me so based on the story I created the 3 Ryou bento (which was my dinner yesterday)

After receiving the allowance, the samurai is feasting with his wife and brought her some nice hair ornament. They have roast duck (though in the story it was mentioned that good quality fish is a real treat during the time) for dinner as well as some sweets for dessert. And I think it is only proper to use the Kimono Murasaki Long box for this occasion 🙂
